The Hungarian House in Sydney is more than just a building, and more than a traditional club. It’s a community space designed to provide a true home for the local Hungarian community: a meeting point, a place for collaboration, and a hub for new ideas. Now we’re stepping in a new direction. We’re looking for people who genuinely want to contribute to the community and its future. As a first step, we invite you to become a shareholder of the Hungarian House and take part in shaping the future of the Hungarian community.
What does being a shareholder mean?
A share is not just a purchase. It’s responsibility. It’s commitment.
Those who buy a share don’t just support the operation of the Hungarian House, they take an active role in it. That’s why we’ve introduced an active membership system: each shareholder is expected to contribute a minimum of 8 hours of volunteer work per year. This could include organising, participating in events, community work, what matters is active involvement.
The price of the share is symbolic but the mindset behind it is not.
Who is this for?

• who want not just to participate, but to shape the community
It doesn’t matter if you’ve lived here for years or have just arrived. Age and background don’t matter either. What we’re looking for is openness, initiative, and genuine intent.
Why now?
Our community is evolving. New needs and new ways of thinking are emerging and we need to respond to them. That’s why we aim to refresh our programmes, launch new events, and better engage younger generations, as well as those who may have felt like outsiders until now.

How can you join?
Applications are open on an ongoing basis. However, becoming a shareholder is not automatic: we want to get to know applicants, understand their motivation, and ensure they will truly contribute to the community.

3. What can you commit to in the long term?
